WalterOS

From Haiku Max Wiki

Project Code Name: WalterOS

Based on Haiku, the MIT licensed opensource OS.

Primary goal: To make Haiku accessible to non technical computer users.

Secondary goal: help get 0.1% of global Desktop OS installations for Haiku before R2

Planning Stage

Final name proposals (send your proposal or vote to an existing proposal to vasper (mailto:vasper_NOSPAM_@beosmax_NOSPAMMERS_.org)):

Flow

Max

Autumn (proposed by Matt)

Phoenix (proposed by Matt - a different Matt :-) )

Limerick (proposed by Eric)

QuantumLeap (QL) (proposed by Oscar)

Atlantis (proposed by Johnbon)

Ensemble (proposed by Paddy)

(I received so many that I will have to choose some over others I am afraid. But I will accept proposals for 48hours more at least.)

Rejected:

WalterOS (nobody likes that name it seems... so I am removing it from the official list)

VeOS (name too close to registered trademark BeOS - sounds close to it)

Some details:

All code developed for this OS will be given to Haiku with the same MIT license 1 month after release at the latest. 50% of all income generated for us from any activity related to this OS (selling of CD and possibly memorabilia) will be donated to Haiku. Donations will not be accepted, please donate to Haiku.

Clarification: Our Haiku based distro will come out only once Haiku R1 is finished and given a production status by the Haiku developer team. Read this also (http://vbeosa.blogspot.com/2007/04/haiku-distroes.html)

NOTE: BeOS Max V4 will be finished as promised. Unofficial support from Access (the owner of Be IP) was given so we can proceed.
